Conscious Aging Workshop

Each day offers its own unique challenges. Learning to age with grace and purpose requires our strongest inner core to come forward to help us survive — and thrive — as we transition through the many stages of life. Every day we are fortunate enough to wake with the rising sun, we are also presented with opportunities for spiritual, emotional and psychological growth.

Research conducted by the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) has found that mature adults yearn to engage in dialogue together on issues such as self-compassion, forgiveness, making sense of the past and learning from transformational experiences as well as learning to surrender to what is and creating a future of their own design. They are looking for guidance, connection, and community to help fortify themselves for their present situation as well as their aging years. In an effort to address the challenges and opportunities we face as we age, the Institute of Noetic Sciences has developed the Conscious Aging Program. This Program consists of a series of workshops to bring together mature adults in an effort to cultivate wisdom, connect with others and celebrate life.

Conscious Aging consists of examining our emotional, psychological and spiritual responses to the challenges and opportunities of aging so that we live with an open and accessible heart, regardless of the external circumstances we may encounter.

Desired Outcomes

A certified IONS Conscious Aging facilitator guides workshop participants through exploratory processes and enriching activities. The workshop is designed to assist mature adults in harvesting and cultivating wisdom, connecting with others, and celebrating the bounty of life. The workshops focus on the following outcomes.

• Explore unexamined, self-limiting beliefs, assumptions and stereotypes, and learn to make better, more conscious choices about our worldviews;

• Develop self-compassion to cope more effectively with change, worry, stresses and life challenges;

• Discover and reflect on what has given heart and meaning to our lives and how that informs our intentions for our lives as we age;

• Enhance connection and reduce isolation from others and the web of life by understanding our shared humanity; and

• Reduce our fears about the impermanence of life and increase acceptance of the inevitable arrival of the end of life ~ an experience all living beings must confront.
